Like it or not, stock Supras are only going to increase in value as more and more are customized.

They are like E30 M3s
Great cars. But a LOT of scratch for how much performance you get.

A nice Supra is quickly becoming an investment. Values are rising quickly, creating a snowball effect. Also, consider the car you get: 0-60 in 4.6, amazing cruising, coilovers contributing to incredible handling, a fantastic interior, great sound, good driving experience, looks that are considered among the (or the very) best. It's worth it for enough people to inflate values to such a steep price.
One like this with 14K on the odometer's going for 80 grand.

That's mint-condition NSX money.

for once there's something that's cheaper to buy in Australia than the US.
Going price for a really really decent RZ Supra here is 30k
that's some fuckin' low mileage though for sure. but not $68k worth.

They will probably keep going up and cap off when they become legal for import. Only then might they level off and 'maybe' decline. The skyline experiment should provide us good info on how the markets will react. Also keep your eye on jdm 300zx's too to see how they react.

The mindset of the guy who buys this car:
-I am rich
-A nice Supra is an increasing rarity
-This will only appreciate
-This car is a unique and fantastic machine

Wait, wasn't that one of this guy's scams?

Supra replica, just like the original. Better than the original. $10,000 and we'll build it for you!

Call it the fast and the furious effect. More and more supras are getting riced all to hell, which just increases the value and desireability of the remaining unmolested examples. Couple that with Toyota's reluctance to replace it with a new model and you have a recipe for skyrocketing demand, limited supply, and used supercar pricetags.
You could still get a non-turbo and do a GTE swap on if for relative pennies on the dollar, but theres a whole world of restorers out there waiting to scoupe those up too. Its only a matter of time.

USDM Supras are better though. Turbos are stronger (USDM steel vs ceramic), brakes are bigger (JDM turbos had the same brakes as N/A USDMs) and the engine runs off an AFM system instead of a MAP.

the larger brakes were an option from '94 on the JDM cars, and were standard on the RZ's and RZ-S's from 1997 onwards. They got AFM and BEAMS/VVT-i that year too.
Did the US cars get the REAS?
